Classic Tuna Salad Sandwich

Ingredients

  1. 2 cans tuna, drained
  2. 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  3. 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  4. 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  5. 2 tablespoons onion, finely diced
  6. 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish (optional)
  7. Salt and black pepper to taste
  8. 4 slices bread, toasted or plain
  9. Lettuce leaves or spinach

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl combine tuna, mayo, mustard, celery, onion, and relish if using. Stir until creamy.
  2. Season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  3. Lay lettuce or spinach on two slices of bread.
  4. Spread tuna mixture evenly on top. Place the other slices of bread over to make sandwiches.
  5. Cut in half and serve.

Tips

  1. You can make the tuna salad ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  2. Try serving it open faced with tomato slices on top.
  3. Use whole grain or rye bread for extra flavor.
