Ingredients
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef (or half beef and half pork)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes, 28 ounces
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 half teaspoon black pepper
- Half cup milk
- Parmesan cheese for serving
Directions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook 5 minutes until soft.
- Add the ground meat. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Lower the heat and simmer gently for 25 to 30 minutes. Stir now and then.
- Pour in the milk, stir, and simmer 5 more minutes.
- Spoon the sauce over spaghetti. Top with Parmesan.
Tips
- A splash of red wine adds more depth to the sauce.
- This sauce tastes even better the next day, so you can make ahead.
