So, here’s the latest political soap opera. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, recently called for President Trump to be impeached. Why? Because he ordered airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites without Congress saying “yes.” That move didn’t sit well with her at all.
It all went down last Saturday, when Trump launched attacks on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities. AOC jumped in with both feet, calling it “absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.” She said it violated the Constitution and ignored Congress’s war powers. That’s big talk.
Then came the fireworks. On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Al Green formally filed articles of impeachment against Trump, charging that he abused his power and threatened democracy. AOC threw her support behind him—she’s part of a growing chorus worried about a president waging war without legislative approval. Democrats are split, though. Some want to go all in, while others say “hold on,” citing the GOP-controlled House and a riskier path.
Trump didn’t take it lightly. He unleashed a tirade on Truth Social, calling AOC “stupid” and one of the “dumbest” members of Congress. He didn’t stop there—he also insulted Ilhan Omar and Jasmine Crockett, tossing in some extra insults for dramatic flair. AOC fired back on X, sarcastically calling herself a “silly girl” and throwing shade about Queens boys and Bronx pride.
Then the House weighed in. Rep. Green’s impeachment resolution went to a vote—and got shut down, 344 to 79. That included 128 Democrats siding with Republicans. Leadership argued that digging into impeachment now would distract from other priorities—like tax cuts or war-powers oversight.
So where does that leave us? AOC and some progressives are fired up, saying this is a constitutional crisis and Trump broke the rules. Others in her own party aren’t ready to burn political capital. Trump himself, unsurprisingly, is daring them to try it again.
