So it’s January 1st. You’re feeling like a brand-new person. You just told yourself, “This is my year.” You made that big list: Get rich. Get in shape. Buy a car. Eat healthy. Travel more. Maybe even meet someone cute who thinks you’re funny and brings you smoothies after your workout.
Sounds familiar, right?
There’s something about the new year that makes us all a little delusional. We start picturing this “super version” of ourselves. Money’s flowing. Muscles are bulging. We’re on a beach with a six-pack, not just in our hands but on our stomach.
Fast forward a few months… and what happened?
Let me guess. That gym membership? Still active, but unused. The meal prep? Replaced by fast food and microwave burritos. Travel plans? You’re just traveling from your bed to the couch — and even that feels exhausting.
And let’s not even talk about the money. Your bank account looks like it’s on a diet. Not the kind you planned.

It’s okay though. You’re not alone. We all start the year with fire in our eyes, and then real life throws a bucket of cold water on us. Work gets busy, weather gets miserable, and suddenly the couch becomes your best friend again.
I get it. I’ve had resolutions die faster than my motivation to fold laundry.
But here’s the part no one likes to admit — most resolutions fail because they’re too big, too fast. We aim for a full life makeover instead of making one tiny change at a time.
Like, maybe don’t try to become a millionaire, bodybuilder, and world traveler all at once. Maybe just try drinking more water and going outside for 10 minutes a day. Sounds lame, but it works.
Also, can we stop pretending we need January to start fresh? It’s just a month. You can reset any day. Like… today.
So if you’re sitting on your couch right now in the same sweatpants you wore yesterday, don’t beat yourself up. Just ask yourself: “What’s one small thing I can do today?” That’s it. One thing. Then try again tomorrow.
Progress is better than perfection. Always.
And if all else fails — well, there’s always next year, right?
But seriously… maybe get off the couch. Or at least stretch or something.
